Photos by Som of a three day road trip from Delhi to Jaipur via Sariska, Bhangarh and Abhaneri.

Beginning: Highways in India are still evolving. We are still trying to figure out how to use our highways given the variety of transportations in use - trucks, cars, buses, three wheelers, motor bikes, scooters, cycles, bullock carts, and elephants. http://locomotoring.net/2008/07/01/not-on-the-map-part-i/)

Sariska: A tiger sanctuary where the tigers are now all dead or departed ( http://locomotoring.net/2008/07/01/not-on-the-map-part-ii/ )

Bhangarh: Established in mid 1600s and abandoned in early 1700s, Bhangarh is now a ghost town. ( http://locomotoring.net/2008/07/07/not-on-the-map-part-iii/ )

Abhaneri: Chand Baori, the 8th century stepwell, is exceptionally well preserved. Not well restored, just well preserved. It is a square shaped well, fairly deep possibly the deepest stepwell in Indo-Pakistan region, with thousands of steep steps on three sides and a deep green pool at the bottom. http://locomotoring.net/2008/07/21/not-on-the-map-part-iv/)

End: Jaipur - the pink city. http://locomotoring.net/2008/10/22/jaipuri-man-in-a-saree/)

locomotoring > Barely out of Delhi, we see an elephant on the road.
locomotoring > A little beyond Manesar, we go off the highway. The surroundings immediately become rural.
locomotoring > Village dame collecting twigs, presumably for fire.
locomotoring > Guesthouse in Sariska. Smelled of old British Raj and monkey pee.
locomotoring > Absolutely be beware of monkeys. They were a nuisance.
locomotoring > Peacock roaming the lawn. This was the early morning view from guesthouse balcony. Too bad that the smell of monkey pee kept us from enjoying the sight for too long.
locomotoring > Road leading upto the guesthouse. I forget now what this gentleman is upto.
locomotoring > Sharing the road, we will see many goat herds on our way.
locomotoring > small villages tucked away, sometimes they have only a few houses.
locomotoring > Between Sariska and Bhangarh, we came across ruins of this old town. This was probably lived in until a few decades back. Now, it is taken over by monkeys.
locomotoring > The new village is adjacent to the old town. Villagers going about their usual business.
locomotoring > Between Sariska and Bhangarh still. Ruins of an old temple in the background.
locomotoring > Colorful clothes are popular among womenfolk. We were surprised how they could walk so gracefully with most of their faces covered.
locomotoring > Camel cart. Again, we would see many of these on our trip. They are as curious about city folks as we are of them.
locomotoring > Still between Sariska and Bhangarh. New and old co-exist.
Barely out of Delhi, we see an elephant on the road.
